Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has announced a major expansion of journalist accreditation, increasing eligibility to over 46,000 journalists, while also extending bus passes expiring on April 30 by 15 days. Minister for Information & Public Relations, Revenue, and Housing Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the move aims to strengthen welfare measures under the vision of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The process is ongoing, with applications open till May 10 and further implementation underway.

Telangana Journalist Accreditation Expansion Announced
Addressing a programme organized by the Information Department on Thursday, Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy distributed new accreditation cards and made key announcements:
- The government will issue accreditation cards to every eligible journalist in the state
- Eligibility has been expanded to over 46,000 journalists
- So far, around 2,800 accreditation cards have been approved
He clarified that the earlier government had the scope to issue 32,500 accreditations but limited them to 23,352, while the current government has significantly expanded coverage.
Bus Pass Extension Announced for Journalists
Considering that several journalists’ bus passes are set to expire on April 30, the Minister announced:
- 15-day extension for all such bus passes
This step ensures continued support for journalists during the accreditation transition.
Applications Open Till May 10, Distribution on May 1
The Minister stated:
- District Collectors have been directed to distribute accreditation cards across all districts on May 1
- Journalists must submit applications by May 10 (cut-off date)
- All applications received within this timeline will be processed
Amendments Made to Government Orders
Based on suggestions from journalist associations:
- Necessary amendments have been made to relevant Government Orders
- The Minister emphasized there will be no hesitation in issuing cards to all eligible journalists
Focus on Welfare and Healthcare Benefits
The Minister highlighted that:
- After finalizing the total number of accredited journalists, the government will create a structured welfare plan
- This includes healthcare and additional benefits for media professionals
- The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has already provided key directions
Continuous Accreditation Process
The government clarified:
- Accreditation will be a continuous process
- Journalists changing organizations need not worry
- The state aims to set a national benchmark in journalist welfare
- Consultations with media associations will be held soon
