Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has issued a directive to District Collectors to remain vigilant in light of warnings from the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rains in the state over the next three days.
Taking note of the continuous heavy rainfall in the state over the past three days and the forecast for more rain, Chief Secretary Kumari emphasized the need for strict coordination among all departments to prevent loss of life and property.
Chief Secretary Kumari conducted a teleconference with district collectors to review the situation on Tuesday. She emphasized that tanks and streams in various districts are already full, necessitating appropriate measures to prevent damage to ponds. Safety arrangements must also be put in place at causeways, culverts, and bridges to minimize potential damage caused by heavy rains and flooding.
As a precautionary measure, regular teleconferences should be held with mandal-level revenue, PR, and other officials. Control rooms should be established in every district collectorate to monitor the situation.
Local fire brigade and police teams have been instructed to deploy for appropriate relief efforts in rain and flood-affected areas. Chief Secretary Kumari ordered the relocation of people from such areas to safe zones, as well as the establishment of relief camps providing essential services such as food, water, and medical care for affected families. In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, residents are advised not to open manholes.
The teleconference also included the participation of various officials, including DGP Anjani Kumar, Special Chief Secretaries Rajat Kumar, Arvind Kumar, Sunil Sharma, Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Disaster Management Secretary Rahul Bojja, Fire Services DG Nagireddy, Water Board MD Dana Kishore, and GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose, as per an official release.
