Hyderabad: In a significant decision under the Christian Overseas Scholarship Scheme allocation, the Government of Telangana, Minorities Welfare (EDN) Department, has earmarked 100 additional scholarships exclusively for Christian minority students each year, over and above the existing 500 minority scholarships, taking the total scholarships per year to 600, with seat distribution and reallocation rules clearly defined.

As per Memo.No.3510/EDN/2025-2, dated 17-03-2026, issued by the Government of Telangana, Minorities Welfare (EDN) Department, the subject states:

“M.W. Dept – CMs Overseas Scholarship Scheme – Earmarking 100 Scholarships exclusively for Christian Minority Students in addition to the existing 500 Scholarships for Minorities per year to pursue Post Graduate / Doctoral studies abroad in terms of G.O.Ms.No.24, MW (Estt.I) Dept., dt:19.09.2015 – clarifications – issued – Reg.”

100 Scholarships Reserved for Christian Minority Students

The government informed that through G.O.Ms No.21, MW (EDN) Dept., dt:20.12.2025, an additional 100 overseas scholarships are enhanced exclusively for Christian Minorities per year under the Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for pursuing higher studies abroad.

Clarifications on Allocation and Distribution

After examination, the government clarified:

  • The order under G.O.Ms.No.21, MW(EDN) Dept., dt:20.12.2025 will be exclusively for Christian minorities
  • The number of Christian minority beneficiaries will not exceed 100 per year
  • Remaining seats under G.O.Ms.No.24, MW (ESTT.I) Dept., dated:19.05.2015 may be reallocated

Distribution of 500 Minority Scholarships

The allocation of the existing 500 minority seats is as follows:

  • Muslims: 96% (480 seats)
  • Jains: 1% (5 seats)
  • Sikhs: 1% (5 seats)
  • Buddhists: 1% (5 seats)
  • Parsis: 1% (5 seats)

Total: 500 seats

Reallocation Rule for Unfilled Seats

The memo clearly states that:

  • Any leftover or unfilled seats from the above allocation
  • May be allocated to Muslim minority students

Total Scholarships Increased to 600 Per Year

With the addition of 100 exclusive Christian scholarships, the total annual scholarships are:

  • 500 minority scholarships
  • 100 seats exclusively for Christians

Grand Total: 600 scholarships per year

Instructions to Authorities

The order directs:

  • The Commissioner, Minorities Welfare, Hyderabad
  • To take necessary action accordingly
