Telangana-Wide Educational Bandh Announced Over Students’ Democratic Rights
Announcing the shutdown, NSUI Telangana state president Yadavali Venkat Swamy said the protest was being organised to express solidarity with students across the country who have been raising their voices over education-related policies and issues.
Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), along with several Left-affiliated student organisations, has called for a statewide educational shutdown on July 24 in protest against alleged police action against students in Delhi and what they described as attacks on the democratic rights of students.
The shutdown is being supported by several student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Federation (AISF), Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU), All India Federation of Democratic Students (AIFDS), All India Students’ Bloc (AISB) and All India Progressive Students’ Union (AIPSU), among others.

He alleged that the detention of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a protest in Delhi and the alleged lathi-charge on students represented a direct attack on democratic values and the constitutional right to peaceful protest.
The student organisations have put forward several demands, including the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA), strict action against those allegedly responsible for police action against students in Delhi, and concrete measures to safeguard the democratic and constitutional rights of students.
Venkat Swamy appealed to government and private educational institutions, students, teachers, parents and the general public across Telangana to support the educational shutdown. He also urged NSUI leaders and activists at the state, district, university and college levels to coordinate with other student organisations and ensure that the protest is conducted peacefully and in an organised manner.
The call for the shutdown comes amid a series of protests by student organisations across the country over education-related concerns, alleged examination irregularities and the recent student protests in Delhi.
