Lucknow: The police caught Bajrang Muni Das, the head of Maharshi Shri Lakshman Das Udasin Ashram in Khairabad, who threatened Muslim women with rape.
The arrest of the hatemonger from Uttar Pradesh comes 11 days after he made his shocking threats at a religious procession in the presence of police. He has been arrested from Sitapur, 100 km from state capital Lucknow.
A two-minute video of his speech which he delivered on April 2, had gone viral last Friday, wherein he is purportedly heard making rape threats. The hate speech drew sharp criticism from sensible Hindus as well and also from the National Commission of Women.
The call #ArrestBajrangMunis was also initiated by a Hindu journalist Kaushik Raj who tweeted: “My dear Hindu community, how are you okay with an influential monk threatening mass rape of Muslim women in front of a Masjid with loud cheers of our God’s name? Is this how you want our religion to be known? If not, speak up. #ArrestBajrangMuni
NCW had also sought his arrest, saying the police cannot be mute spectators to such comments.
Thereafter, an FIR was filed against him and he was been booked under Indian Penal Code sections related to making hate speech, making derogatory statements and sexual harassment.
Hours after being booked he released another video wherein Bajrang Muni is heard seeking unconditional apology.
