Hyderabad: The members of the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists Mutual Aided Cooperative Housing Society (JNJ MACHS) gathered on Sunday at Sundarayya Vigyan Kendra to discuss the long-standing land issue of the society.
Retired High Court Judge Chandrakumar, along with former MLC and Supreme Court Senior Advocate N Rama Chandra Rao, addressed the meeting, affirming the rights of JNJ Society members to the 70 acres of land in Nizampet and Pet Basheerabad.
According to the Supreme Court judgment, the 70 acres of land in question rightfully belong to the members of the JNJ Society, as they have made the necessary payments for the land. Retired Justice Chandrakumar emphasized that the judgment clearly indicates that there is no need for arbitration, and the land should be handed over to the society. He further explained that the members of the society purchased the land for Rs.12.33 crores, based on the government’s market price at the time. The Supreme Court ruling grants them full possession rights, and failure to implement the judgment may result in further legal action.
Supreme Court Advocate Ramachandra Rao affirmed that, in accordance with the Supreme Court judgment, the plots should be transferred to the JNJ Housing Society. If the state government fails to comply, legal assistance will be provided to the society members to ensure their rights are protected. He reiterated that the highest court of the country supports journalists who play a crucial role in bringing public issues to light. The immediate handover of the 38 acres of land in Pet Basheerabad was also emphasized.
Founder member PV Ramana Rao, presiding over the meeting, announced that legal action, including filing a contempt of court petition, will be pursued to secure the land. He also mentioned the plan to stage protests, round table meetings, and relay hunger strikes to raise awareness about their cause. The members expressed their determination to work tirelessly to achieve their objectives.
During the meeting, several resolutions were passed unanimously, urging the government to adhere to the Supreme Court judgment and transfer the 38 acres of land in Pet Basheerabad to the JNJ Housing Society. Additionally, a petition will be filed in the Supreme Court to address the non-implementation of the judgment. Round table meetings and relay hunger strikes were also approved as means of peaceful protest.
A large number of members attended the meeting, offering valuable suggestions on the forthcoming agitation to secure the land. The members, displaying their unity, organized a rally around Sundarayya Park, chanting slogans demanding the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court judgment and the rightful handover of the land to them.
