Beirut: Two Hezbollah members were killed, and two civilians injured on Monday in Israeli raids on Lebanon’s southern borders, according to Lebanese military sources.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Israeli forces had launched 14 airstrikes on eight towns and villages in southern Lebanon and destroyed three houses, adding that around 100 Israeli shells were also fired at 15 towns and villages in the area, destroying eight houses and damaging 25 others.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah said its fighters attacked several Israeli targets at sites including al-Samaqa, al-Motella, and the Zarit barracks.

The Lebanese-Israeli border has been witnessing increased tension since Oct. 8, 2023, after Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 239 people on the Lebanese side, including 173 Hezbollah members and 39 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
