28 Bengali Muslims Declared Foreigners and Sent to Detention Camp by Assam Police: Video
In Barpeta district of Assam, 28 Muslims from the Bengali Muslim community, previously declared as foreigners, were arrested and sent to a detention camp on Monday. The camp is located approximately 50 kilometers away.

A viral video on social media shows the families of the 28 individuals, who were declared foreigners, outside the Barpeta SP office as they were being transported in a police vehicle. The relatives were seen weeping inconsolably.
Local activist Farooq Khan reported that on Monday, individuals from 28 families across various areas of the district were called to the police station for signing documents. They were later summoned to the SP office and forcibly sent to the detention camp.

It is noteworthy that on August 22, Assam’s Home Department informed the state assembly that there are a total of 119,570 D-voters in the state, out of which 54,411 have been declared as foreigners by tribunals. Additionally, 16 individuals have been sent to Bangladesh.

The Home Department also informed the assembly that the Gopalpara Matiya Detention Camp, the largest facility in the country, currently houses 210 declared foreigners. These 28 individuals were arrested amid rising reactions against the Bengali Muslim community.
