In a major policy push, the Telangana Cabinet chaired by Revanth Reddy decided to conduct municipal and municipal corporation elections at the earliest for all local bodies whose terms have expired. The decision was taken during a historic cabinet meeting held at Medaram, marking the first-ever Telangana Cabinet meeting outside Hyderabad.

The Telangana municipal elections decision and a series of infrastructure, irrigation, metro, and temple development approvals are expected to have a wide-ranging impact across the state.
Early Elections for Expired Municipal Bodies
The Cabinet resolved to complete elections as soon as possible for:
- 116 Municipalities
- 7 Municipal Corporations
- 2,996 wards and divisions across Telangana
The decision comes as the Dedicated Commission has already submitted its report, reservations have been finalized, and upcoming events such as Ramzan, Shivaratri, and student examinations from late February were taken into consideration.
Historic Cabinet Meet at Medaram
For the first time in state history, the Cabinet met at Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma shrine, underlining its cultural and regional significance. Several long-term development decisions were approved to strengthen infrastructure, irrigation, tourism, and urban governance.
₹143 Crore Approved for Jampanna Vagu Water Flow
To ensure year-round water flow in Jampanna Vagu at Medaram, the Cabinet approved ₹143 crore to lift water from Ramappa and Laknavaram reservoirs, sourcing Godavari water through pumping systems.
New Potlapur Lift Irrigation Project in Mulugu
The Cabinet also approved the Potlapur Lift Irrigation Project in Mulugu district:
- Water to be lifted from Ramappa Cheruvu
- Benefits 5 villages and 30 tanks
- Irrigation support for 7,500 acres of ayacut
Medaram Land Expansion and Development
With 19 acres of land already acquired at Medaram, the Cabinet decided to acquire an additional 20–21 acres to develop the sacred site sustainably for future generations.
Grand Plans for Godavari Pushkaralu 2027
The Cabinet resolved to organize Godavari Pushkaralu from July 27 to August 3, 2027, on a grand scale.
- A temple development and eco-tourism circuit from Basara to Bhadrachalam
- Appointment of a consultancy to submit a detailed report by March 31
- A Cabinet sub-committee to oversee permanent temple development, similar to Medaram
Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 and New Road Approval
On the Hyderabad Metro front:
- Cabinet discussed the L&T to HMRL takeover process and decided to fast-track it
- Approved ₹2,787 crore for land acquisition for Metro Phase-2 (A & B extensions)
- Approved construction of a 9-km new road from ICCC to Shilpa Layout
Law College Approved in Nalgonda
The Cabinet also approved the establishment of a Law College under Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda district, strengthening higher legal education infrastructure.

After the Cabinet meeting, ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Seethakka addressed the media and detailed the decisions taken.
