Good News for Ration Card Holders as Telangana Government Takes a Major Decision

The Telangana government is set to bring good news to ration card holders across the state by planning to distribute ration items along with fine rice in the coming days. The announcement comes as Telangana achieves its highest paddy procurement in the last 25 years, reflecting strong agricultural growth and effective farmer-centric policies.

Record Paddy Procurement in Telangana

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the state procured 70.82 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the Kharif season, surpassing all previous records.

Key highlights:

  • Highest procurement in 25 years
  • 14.21 lakh farmers benefited across Telangana
  • ₹17,018 crore directly credited to farmers’ bank accounts

The minister credited the success to the government’s Farmer Assurance and Remunerative Harvest to Crop policies.

Focus on Fine Rice Varieties

Out of the total procurement, 38.37 lakh metric tonnes consisted of fine rice varieties. The government is actively encouraging the cultivation of premium varieties such as:

  • Samba Masuri
  • Telangana Masoori

The objective is to ensure farmers receive quality seeds, promote micro-crop expansion, and supply better-quality rice to consumers through the public distribution system.

Ration Distribution With Fine Rice Planned

With increased availability of fine rice, the Telangana government plans to:

  • Supply thin (fine) rice through ration shops
  • Provide additional ration items along with rice
  • Improve nutritional quality for beneficiaries

This move is expected to benefit lakhs of ration card holders across the state.

Expanding Storage Capacity With Modern Godowns

Managing surplus grain has become a key challenge. To address this, the government is:

  • Increasing storage capacity beyond the existing 29 LMT
  • Constructing modern godowns with central assistance
  • Encouraging private partnerships for warehouse expansion
  • Using modern storage technology to prevent wastage

Incentives for Rice Exports, Warning to Defaulting Mills

The market for Telangana rice is expanding rapidly. To boost exports:

  • Special incentives will be given to rice mills exporting to other states and abroad
  • Strict action will be taken against mills violating norms

The minister warned that defaulting mills will not receive grain allocation in the upcoming Yasangi season.

Bonus Paid to Fine Rice Farmers

So far, the government has paid:

  • ₹1,425 crore bonus to farmers cultivating fine rice
  • Bonus rate: ₹500 per quintal

In procurement performance:

  • Nizamabad district topped the state
  • Nalgonda and Kamareddy districts followed

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said that seeing smiles on farmers’ faces during Sankranti is the true measure of the government’s success. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture and ensuring fair returns for farmers.
