GHMC Launches City-Wide Sanitation Drive in Hyderabad from February 3

GHMC will conduct a city-wide sanitation drive in Hyderabad from February 3 to 28, covering 300 wards daily to remove garbage vulnerable points and improve cleanliness.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will undertake a special city-wide sanitation drive from February 3 to February 28 across Hyderabad. The initiative aims to ensure comprehensive cleanliness and eliminate Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across the city.

As part of the drive, GHMC will cover 300 wards every day, following directions issued by the GHMC Commissioner.

Focus on Garbage Removal and Clean Public Spaces

Officials said the sanitation drive will focus on the removal of:

  • Legacy waste
  • Municipal solid waste
  • Construction and demolition (C&D) debris
  • Green waste
  • Residual waste from engineering and biodiversity works

The initiative is designed to improve overall sanitation and enhance the appearance of public spaces across Hyderabad.

Daily Sanitation Work to Begin at 6:30 AM

Sanitation activities will start daily at 6:30 AM and will be carried out in a phased manner across different urban assets.

Areas identified for cleaning include:

  • Foot overbridges and flyovers
  • Roadsides and medians
  • Lakes and nalas
  • Footpaths and parks
  • Slum areas
  • Areas near electric transformers and poles

GHMC teams will ensure that waste accumulation points are cleared efficiently.

Conversion of GVPs Into Public-Friendly Spaces

As part of the sanitation drive, GHMC will:

  • Clear long-pending legacy waste from identified locations
  • Conduct special C&D waste removal using dedicated vehicles
  • Convert selected GVPs into public-friendly spaces through:
    • Wall paintings
    • Plantation drives
    • Aesthetic improvements

The civic body will also carry out e-waste collection, green waste reuse, and RRR centre initiatives to promote sustainability.

Awareness Drives and Strict Enforcement

GHMC will organise awareness programmes involving:

  • Local residents
  • Schools
  • Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs)

To ensure compliance, spot fines will be imposed for:

  • Littering
  • Open urination
  • Illegal dumping of waste

Officials Directed to Ensure Coordination

Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Solid Waste Management engineers, waste management agencies, and Urban Community Development (UCD) teams have been instructed to ensure:

  • Inter-departmental coordination
  • Real-time monitoring
  • Daily progress reporting

GHMC Appeals for Public Cooperation

GHMC has appealed to Hyderabad residents to cooperate with field staff and actively participate in cleanliness and awareness initiatives to support long-term sanitation and a cleaner city.

The sanitation drive is expected to significantly improve hygiene, public health, and the overall urban environment in Hyderabad.
