Ulaanbaatar, April 6, 2026: India’s women boxers delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026, with Preeti Pawar leading the charge by securing a place in the 54kg final after defeating Korea’s Aeji Im, a bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics.
Preeti produced a dominant display in the semifinal, outclassing her opponent across all three rounds to register a unanimous 5-0 victory. She will now face Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen, a three-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist, in what promises to be a high-stakes gold medal bout.
India’s campaign received a further boost as Priya advanced to the final in the 60kg category with a commanding 5-0 win over Mongolia’s Namuun Monkhor. She is set to take on North Korea’s Un Gyong Won in the title clash.
In the 70kg category, Arundhati Choudhary also booked her place in the final after a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Uzbekistan’s Oysha Toirova. She will now meet Kazakhstan’s Bakyt Seidish in the gold medal bout.

However, it was a mixed day for the Indian contingent in other categories. Ankushita Boro bowed out in the 65kg semifinals after losing 0-3 to Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen. The bout faced an unusual interruption due to a power outage, with the final result decided on points.
In the 51kg division, Nikhat Zareen suffered a 0-5 defeat to China’s Wu Yu, the reigning Olympic champion. Similarly, Lovlina Borgohain went down 0-5 to Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova in the 75kg semifinals.
In the 80kg category, Pooja Rani also exited the tournament after a 0-5 loss to Kazakhstan’s Nadezhda Ryabets.
With multiple finalists already confirmed, India’s campaign remains strong, with two more semifinal bouts scheduled on April 7 in the 48kg and 57kg categories.
