Telangana Power Sector Push: CM Revanth Reddy Orders New Substations, 18 Solar Plants Across 9 Districts

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy orders immediate substation construction and 18 solar power plants across nine districts to meet rising electricity demand from major development projects.

Hyderabad: In a major push for the Telangana power sector, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has ordered the immediate construction of electricity substations to meet rising power demand driven by upcoming industrial zones, high-speed rail corridors, and Triple R development projects.

The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting on the electricity department, held jointly with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Mallu. The meeting was also attended by MP Vemnarender Reddy and senior officials from the energy department.

The Chief Minister stressed that ensuring adequate power supply infrastructure is critical for Telangana’s upcoming large-scale development projects and directed officials to act without delay. The current status remains ongoing implementation with immediate administrative action initiated.

Green Energy Policy and Data Center Approvals

As part of the Telangana power sector reforms, the Chief Minister instructed officials to:

  • Grant permissions on priority to applicants under the Green Energy Policy
  • Approve necessary clearances for large data centers requiring high power supply

This move aims to strengthen Telangana’s position as a hub for technology and industrial investments.

Solar Power Expansion and Awareness Programs

The Chief Minister also emphasized the expansion of solar energy initiatives:

  • Awareness programs to be conducted for Self-Help Group (SHG) women on solar power usage
  • Public awareness to be increased on the use of solar stoves
  • Solar power plants to be set up adjacent to electricity substations

Under a pilot project, officials were directed to establish solar power plants next to two substations in each united district where land is available.

18 Solar Power Plants Planned Across Nine Districts

A key highlight of the Telangana power sector plan is the development of 18 solar power plants:

  • Total plants: 18
  • Coverage: United nine districts (excluding Hyderabad)
  • Distribution: Two solar plants per district
  • Action: Appointment of nodal officers for implementation

This initiative is aimed at boosting renewable energy capacity while improving localized power supply.

AI Technology and Rythu Discom Integration

To address supply gaps and improve efficiency, the Chief Minister directed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the electricity sector.

Officials were also instructed to:

  • Remove misconceptions among employees and staff regarding integration into Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited (Rythu Discom)

These steps are intended to modernize the power distribution system and ensure smoother operations.

The Telangana government, led by Revanth Reddy, has initiated urgent construction of substations and rollout of 18 solar power plants across nine districts (excluding Hyderabad) to meet rising demand from industrial zones, high-speed rail corridors, and major infrastructure projects. The plan includes green energy approvals, AI integration, and awareness programs, with implementation currently underway under official supervision.
