IMD Issues Rain, Thunderstorm and Heatwave Alert for Telangana and AP for Next 3 Days

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather update for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, warning of rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds and heatwave conditions over the next three days. While some areas are witnessing scorching heat, several districts are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the Amaravati Meteorological Centre and Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, changing climatic conditions are continuing across the Telugu states.
Monsoon Conditions Favourable Over Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea
The Amaravati Meteorological Centre stated that the northern limit of the monsoon trough currently passes through:
- 5° North Latitude / 75° East Longitude
- 6° North Latitude / 79° East Longitude
- 8° North Latitude / 85° East Longitude
- 10.5° North Latitude / 90° East Longitude
- 13.5° North Latitude / 95° East Longitude
- 15.5° North Latitude / 98° East Longitude
The department said conditions are favourable for further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into more parts of the Southeast Arabian Sea, Southwest Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands, remaining parts of the Andaman Sea and some parts of Eastcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 2-3 days.
The IMD also stated that the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala is likely around May 26, 2026, with a variation of four days earlier or later.
Cyclonic Circulation and Trough Continue to Influence Weather
The cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu has now shifted over northeast Tamil Nadu and nearby regions at 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, the trough extending from west Vidarbha through Marathwada, Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu across the Gulf of Mannar at 0.9 km above mean sea level continues to persist.
These systems are influencing weather conditions across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Andhra Pradesh Weather Forecast for Next 3 Days
North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are also expected.
South Coastal Andhra Pradesh
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places on Sunday and Monday with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.
On Tuesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.
Rayalaseema
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places on Sunday and Monday along with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.
On Tuesday, thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely along with rainfall.
Temperature Forecast for Andhra Pradesh
The IMD stated that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during the next four days.
However, temperatures are likely to gradually rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
No major change in maximum temperatures is expected over Rayalaseema during the next five days.
Telangana Weather Forecast and Heatwave Warning
According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, the low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal weakened on Saturday evening.
For Telangana, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over one or two districts on Sunday.
Dry weather is expected across the state on Monday and Tuesday.
The maximum temperatures across Telangana are likely to gradually rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next three days.
Heatwave Alert for Northern Telangana Districts
The IMD warned that heatwave conditions are very likely in some northern districts of Telangana today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
The department also warned that light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph may occur at isolated places in some districts of the state today.
