Hyderabad: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, seized 8.705 kilograms of high-grade Cannabis (Hydroponic Ganja) worth approximately Rs. 3.05 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad Airport, from two passengers arriving from Bangkok on May 19, 2026. The drug packets were allegedly concealed inside water bottles, food tin boxes, and snack containers. Both passengers were arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.

DRI Hyderabad Intercepts Two Passengers at RGIA
Acting on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI Hyderabad Zonal Unit intercepted two Indian passengers who arrived from Bangkok at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, on May 19, 2026.
Officials conducted a systematic examination of the passengers’ check-in baggage during the operation.
Hydroponic Ganja Hidden Inside Water Bottles and Food Boxes
During the baggage inspection, DRI officials recovered 24 black-coloured packets containing a greenish lumpy substance with a sharp and pungent odour.
According to officials, the packets were concealed inside:
- Insulated water bottles
- A potato snack tin
- Multiple food tin boxes
- Plastic boxes
- Cardboard boxes
The recovered substance weighed a total of 8.705 kilograms (gross weight).
Substance Tested Positive for Ganja
Officials said the seized substance tested positive for Ganja/Marijuana using a Narcotic Drug Detection Kit.
The DRI identified the seized narcotics as high-grade Cannabis, also known as Hydroponic Ganja.
Drugs Valued at Rs 3.05 Crore in Illegal Market
According to DRI officials, the seized 8.705 kilograms of Hydroponic Ganja has an estimated illicit market value of approximately Rs. 3.05 crore.
The seizure was made at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad Airport.
Two Passengers Arrested Under NDPS Act
Following the seizure, both passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
