Hyderabad Metro Phase-2: CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Fast-Track Approvals, Flags Delay in IRFC Loan Release

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has written an open letter to Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, requesting him to take up the issue with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and ensure the immediate release of funds sanctioned by the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) for the takeover of Hyderabad Metro Phase-I and the implementation of Hyderabad Metro Phase-II expansion.

The Chief Minister stated that the Telangana Government has completed all preconditions required for the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II expansion and the takeover of Metro Phase-I.
Telangana Government Says All Conditions Have Been Fulfilled
According to the Chief Minister’s letter, under the financial agreements currently in force for the Metro takeover, the first installment of the loan approved by IRFC was scheduled to be released on June 15, 2026.
He informed Kishan Reddy that the State Government had not only fulfilled all preconditions but had also paid an advance fee of ₹84.32 crore as required by IRFC.
Despite completing all requirements under the agreement process, the funds have not yet been released by IRFC, the Chief Minister noted in the letter.
Revanth Reddy Offers to Personally Explain Metro Project Details
The Chief Minister stated that if any additional information or clarification is required regarding:
- The Metro takeover process
- The signed agreement
- The proposed Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II expansion
he is prepared to personally meet at a time and place convenient to the Union Minister, along with concerned officials, and provide all details.
Request for Early Approval of Hyderabad Metro Phase-II
Revanth Reddy urged Kishan Reddy to ensure that the loan sanctioned by IRFC is released immediately without further delay.
He also requested that all approvals required for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II Project be granted at the earliest.
In the letter, the Chief Minister stated:
“I will always be available for any meeting related to resolving this highly important issue. I request you to arrange a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the earliest possible opportunity. I will attend the meeting with all relevant agreements and supporting documents to clarify any doubts or issues and help resolve the matter quickly.”
Hyderabad Metro Phase-II to Cover Seven Corridors
In the seven-page letter, the Chief Minister provided comprehensive details about Hyderabad Metro Phase-I and the proposed Hyderabad Metro Phase-II expansion.
According to the proposal, Metro Phase-II will:
- Cover seven corridors across the city
- Be developed at an estimated cost of ₹38,595 crore
- Extend the Metro network by 122.9 kilometres
The project is aimed at significantly improving urban mobility and public transport infrastructure in Hyderabad.
Awaiting Meeting With Ashwini Vaishnaw
The Chief Minister expressed hope that a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw would be arranged to discuss and resolve the matter.
He stated in the letter that he would await further communication regarding the proposed meeting.
