Drinking Water Wastage in Banjara Hills: Water Board Imposes ₹10,000 Fine After MD’s Inspection

Water Board officials imposed a ₹10,000 fine on an individual in Banjara Hills after MD Ashok Reddy found drinking water being wasted due to an overflowing sump and overhead tank during an inspection in Khairatabad.

Officials of the Water Board imposed a ₹10,000 fine on an individual for wasting drinking water supplied by the Water Board and using it for other purposes in Banjara Hills.

The action was taken after Water Board Managing Director Ashok Reddy noticed the wastage during a field-level inspection conducted in the Khairatabad area to review sewerage-related issues.

Ashok Reddy Spots Drinking Water Wastage During Field Visit

According to officials, Water Board MD Ashok Reddy visited various locations in the Khairatabad jurisdiction to assess sewerage problems.

During the inspection, he noticed that drinking water was being wasted at a house in Anand Nagar Colony due to overflow from a sump/overhead tank.

Officials stated that the overflow resulted in the wastage of drinking water supplied by the Water Board.

Water Board MD Orders Notice and Fine

Expressing anger over the incident, Ashok Reddy warned residents not to use drinking water in such a manner or for other purposes.

He directed the concerned officials to:

  • Issue a notice to the individual
  • Impose a penalty for wasting drinking water

Following the MD’s instructions, officials imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the individual.

Warning Against Misuse of Drinking Water

Ashok Reddy appealed to the public not to use drinking water supplied by the Water Board for purposes other than drinking water needs.

He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found engaging in similar activities.
