Ponnam Prabhakar Reviews Hyderabad Monsoon Preparedness, Orders Survey of Unsafe Buildings and Flood Prevention Measures

Ponnam Prabhakar reviewed Hyderabad monsoon preparedness with GHMC officials and directed surveys of unsafe buildings, rainwater harvesting enforcement, nala desilting, Basthi Dawakhana monitoring, SHG strengthening, and plantation planning.

HYDERABAD: Hon’ble Minister for Transport & Backward Classes Welfare and In-Charge Minister for Hyderabad, Ponnam Prabhakar, along with R. V. Karnan, Commissioner, GHMC, and Dr. Priyanka Ala, District Collector, Hyderabad, conducted a comprehensive review of monsoon preparedness and civic management measures in Hyderabad with GHMC officials.

During the review meeting, the Minister issued several directions to improve flood preparedness, public health services, urban infrastructure, and environmental sustainability across the city.

Survey of Dilapidated and Unsafe Buildings Ordered

Reviewing civic safety measures, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to undertake a survey of dilapidated and unsafe buildings across all GHMC circles.

He instructed officials to issue notices to property owners of such buildings and take necessary measures to ensure public safety.

The Minister also directed authorities to ensure the installation of mandatory rainwater harvesting systems in all residential apartments and commercial establishments. Officials were instructed to identify non-compliant buildings and initiate necessary action against them.

Focus on Flood Preparedness and Nala Desilting

As part of Hyderabad’s monsoon preparedness strategy, the Minister emphasized the need to intensify nala desilting and clearance works.

He instructed officials to ensure the free flow of stormwater through drainage channels to minimize urban flooding risks during the monsoon season.

The Minister also directed authorities to closely monitor street lighting systems and prevent the unnecessary operation of street lights during daytime hours.

Basthi Dawakhanas to Be Monitored Daily

Reviewing public health services, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar instructed that dedicated officers visit Basthi Dawakhanas every day.

The officers were directed to monitor service delivery, assess infrastructure requirements, and ensure that healthcare facilities function effectively for residents.

Strengthening Women’s Livelihood Opportunities

The Minister stressed the need to strengthen Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and enhance livelihood opportunities for women across Hyderabad.

He instructed officials to focus on initiatives that support women’s economic empowerment and community development.

Plantation Action Plan for Better Green Cover

To improve environmental sustainability, the Minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive zonal-wise and circle-wise plantation action plan.

The plan should include clear targets aimed at increasing green cover across Hyderabad city.

During the comprehensive review of Hyderabad monsoon preparedness and civic management measures, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan and Hyderabad District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala, directed officials to survey unsafe buildings, enforce rainwater harvesting systems, strengthen flood prevention through nala desilting, improve Basthi Dawakhana monitoring, support SHGs, and prepare a plantation action plan. The directions are aimed at improving civic safety, public services, flood preparedness, and green cover across Hyderabad.
