Hyderabad: In a major relief for thousands of citizens waiting for their Driving Licence (DL) and Registration Certificate (RC) smart cards, the Telangana Transport Department has launched a special drive to expedite the printing and distribution of pending cards across the state.
During a review meeting with District Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and other officials, the State Transport Commissioner directed authorities to ensure that all pending driving licence cards are issued on a priority basis and delivered to applicants without unnecessary delays.
Officials informed the meeting that a large number of approved driving licences have already been dispatched to applicants, while instructions have been issued to further accelerate the delivery process for the remaining cards.
The department clarified that Registration Certificate (RC) smart cards cannot be printed until the details of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are uploaded into the system. All districts have therefore been instructed to upload the pending HSRP data at the earliest to facilitate the printing of RC smart cards.

The review meeting also examined technical issues affecting the printing and dispatch of cards in certain districts. Particular attention was given to problems related to the Electronic Media Service (EMS) system and printing equipment, with officials directed to report any technical glitches immediately through the department’s monitoring mechanism for prompt resolution.
To improve transparency and service efficiency, the Transport Department has introduced a daily monitoring system. Under the new mechanism, the EMS dispatch number of every Driving Licence and RC smart card sent to applicants will be recorded, while district-level authorities will monitor daily printing and dispatch activities.
Officials said the new system would help improve transparency in card delivery and facilitate quicker resolution of public grievances related to delays.
The Transport Commissioner also instructed District Transport Officers to closely monitor the functioning of authorised vehicle inspection centres to ensure quality standards and transparency in the vehicle inspection process.
The Transport Department assured citizens that all necessary steps are being taken to deliver Driving Licences and Registration Certificates within the stipulated time frame and provide faster and more efficient public services.
