Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has directed officials to complete the restoration and development works at Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur, Hyderabad’s IT Corridor, by the third week of August. During a field inspection on Wednesday, the Commissioner instructed officials to develop proper rainwater inlets and outlets, speed up the construction of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), and ensure both lakes are ready for inauguration within the deadline.

HYDRAA Commissioner Inspects Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu Development Works
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath conducted a field inspection of the ongoing restoration works at Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur on Wednesday.
During the visit, he reviewed the construction of pathways around the lakes and the installation of the main entrance gates. He instructed officials to ensure that rainwater flows directly into the lakes by developing proper inlets, while outlets should also be strengthened to safely discharge excess water after the lakes are filled.
HYDRAA Restores Lakes by Removing Encroachments
The Commissioner said the lakes should be developed in a way that allows people to understand their environmental importance, including their role in flood control, groundwater recharge, and ecological conservation.
Officials said Sunnam Cheruvu, which had been reduced to 16.4 acres due to encroachments, has been expanded to 30.5 acres after HYDRAA removed illegal occupations.
Similarly, Tammidikunta, which had shrunk to 16.2 acres, has been expanded to 29.3 acres, where restoration and beautification works are currently underway.

Parks, Open Gyms and Children’s Play Areas Planned
The HYDRAA Commissioner directed officials to develop the lakes with modern public amenities, including:
- Strong protective bunds around the lakes
- Wide walking pathways
- Parks
- Open gyms
- Children’s play areas
He also instructed officials to maintain a pleasant and attractive environment around both lakes for visitors.
STP Works to Be Accelerated
To protect the lakes from pollution, the Commissioner directed officials to speed up the construction of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) so that sewage water does not enter the lakes.
He also instructed the team to ensure there is no possibility of flooding around the lake surroundings by improving the stormwater management system.
Lakes Must Be Ready by Third Week of August
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath instructed officials to complete all restoration, beautification and infrastructure works so that Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu are fully ready for inauguration by the third week of August.
