New Delhi: The Central Government has clarified in the Rajya Sabha that there is no evidence to suggest that using E20 petrol damages vehicle engines. The government said reports claiming that E20 fuel harms engines are merely rumours. Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari also rejected such claims, calling them baseless and misleading. However, the government noted that older vehicles designed only for E10 petrol may experience a 3 to 5 percent reduction in mileage.

Responding in the Rajya Sabha, the Central Government said there is no evidence so far that the use of E20 petrol has caused engine damage in any vehicle.
