Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed District Collectors to provide two school uniforms to every government and residential school student within one month while reviewing El Niño preparedness and the state's 27% rainfall deficit.
Hyderabad: Acting on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has instructed all District Collectors to ensure that every student studying in government schools and residential schools receives two school uniforms within one month. During a video conference held from the State Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Secretary also reviewed the school uniform stitching and distribution programme and the state’s El Niño contingency plan, while directing officials to closely monitor implementation.

CS Sanjay Jaju Holds Video Conference with District Collectors
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju held a video conference with District Collectors and concerned officials from the Telangana State Secretariat on Friday to review:
- School uniform stitching and distribution.
- Contingency planning in view of El Niño.
He instructed officials to complete the distribution of two uniforms to every student in government and residential schools within one month, as directed by the Chief Minister.
26,000 Self-Help Group Women Identified for Uniform Stitching
Officials informed the Chief Secretary that 26,000 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been identified to stitch school uniforms.
Sanjay Jaju stressed that there should be no compromise on the quality of school uniforms.
He recalled the Chief Minister’s directions that officials should collect direct feedback from school students regarding the quality of:
- School uniforms
- Shoes
- Other school kits
The Chief Secretary instructed District Collectors to make timely stitching and distribution of uniforms a priority.
He also directed officials to constitute District-level and Mandal-level Monitoring Committees to continuously supervise the programme.

Telangana Records 27% Rainfall Deficit Due to El Niño
Officials informed the meeting that, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports, Telangana is among the states most affected by El Niño in the country.
Key rainfall data presented during the meeting included:
- 27% rainfall deficit recorded in Telangana so far.
- Only 7 districts have received normal rainfall.
- The remaining 385 mandals are experiencing deficient rainfall.
Officials said weather updates are being shared regularly with farmers through WhatsApp.
Farmers Advised to Shift from Paddy to Alternative Crops
Officials informed the meeting that rainfall has also been below expectations in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
They said water currently available in major reservoirs is being preserved for drinking water purposes.
In view of the rainfall shortage, farmers have been advised to focus on alternative crops instead of paddy.
Officials stated that paddy cultivation has so far remained below 24%.
IMD Predicts Low Rainfall in September
The meeting was informed that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very low rainfall during September as well.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju instructed officials to encourage farmers to cultivate alternative crops since these crops are covered under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system.
He directed officials to create awareness among farmers about the availability of MSP for alternative crops.
Farm Ponds and Mandal Meetings to Be Intensified
The Chief Secretary instructed officials to take up the construction of farm ponds extensively during the current agricultural season.
He also directed District Collectors to ensure that Mandal-level meetings are conducted once every 45 days by preparing proper action plans.
