Dr. Susheel Kodali on TAVR and Patient Selection

Dr. Susheel Kodali said the conference will provide insights into:

He said Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is now performed more frequently than open-heart valve surgery in the United States.

He said the procedure was initially offered to elderly, high-risk patients unsuitable for open-heart surgery and has since become a globally accepted standard following robust clinical trials.

He added that the Heart Team approach, where cardiologists and cardiac surgeons jointly decide the best treatment, is now the global standard.

While affordability, access, and long-term outcomes remain challenges, he said India’s growing emphasis on indigenous medical technologies positions the country to play a major role in the future of structural heart interventions.
