The official distribution date is likely to be announced after approval from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The distribution is expected to begin with a special event in Hyderabad, following which the smart ration cards will be distributed across all districts and Assembly constituencies in the presence of ministers and local legislators. The cards may be distributed during the first week of August or around Independence Day on August 15.
For the first time, ration cards in Telangana have been prepared in a modern smart format. The new cards are reportedly waterproof, durable and designed to withstand regular use for a longer period.
Each smart ration card will carry the cardholder’s name, address, photograph and a QR code. By scanning the QR code, details of all family members, ration distribution records and information about essential commodities such as rice, sugar and wheat can be accessed.

To receive ration, any eligible member of the family can scan the QR code on the card or enter the card number. After completing biometric verification, the beneficiary will be able to collect the allocated ration.
To make the system more convenient, the government has also introduced the T-Ration app. Users will need to download the app and link their ration card through an OTP, after which they can create an M-PIN. The M-PIN will allow beneficiaries to access various ration-related services online.
Officials of the Civil Supplies Department clarified that the state government is bearing the entire cost of preparing and printing the new smart ration cards. No fee will be collected from the public for the issuance or distribution of the cards, officials said.
