Delhi-NCR Sees Rise in H1N1 Cases Amid Humid Weather, Doctors Urge Early Treatment

Delhi-NCR is witnessing a rise in H1N1 cases and other respiratory infections amid humid weather conditions, with doctors reporting an increase in patients testing positive for the influenza virus.

New Delhi: Delhi-NCR is witnessing a rise in H1N1 cases and other respiratory infections amid humid weather conditions, with doctors reporting an increase in patients testing positive for the influenza virus.

According to medical professionals, some doctors and other individuals in the region have also tested positive for H1N1, commonly known as swine flu. Some patients are reportedly experiencing a drop in oxygen levels, prompting doctors to advise people to remain alert to warning signs.

Doctors have urged people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience breathing difficulties, chest pain, persistent fever, bluish discolouration of the lips or nausea, particularly when symptoms are severe or worsening.

Health experts have also cautioned that pregnant women, young children and people with underlying health conditions may be more vulnerable to complications from H1N1 and should take extra precautions.

H1N1 cases rise sharply

Doctors said that while 229 H1N1 cases were reported during the corresponding period last year, the number has increased to 1,349 cases so far this year, indicating a significant rise in infections.

Health officials have advised people experiencing influenza-like symptoms to seek medical advice promptly. Treatment within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms is considered beneficial, particularly for people at higher risk of complications.

Doctors advise preventive measures

With humid weather conditions prevailing across Delhi-NCR, doctors have recommended that residents take preventive measures to reduce the risk of influenza and other respiratory infections.

People have been advised to consider taking the seasonal influenza vaccine, maintain proper hand hygiene and follow respiratory etiquette, including covering the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.

Experts have also urged residents to avoid close contact with people who are unwell and seek medical care if symptoms become severe.

The rise in H1N1 cases has prompted renewed attention to respiratory health in Delhi-NCR, with doctors stressing that early recognition of symptoms and timely treatment can help reduce the risk of serious complications.
