BJP MP’s False Claims about Telangana’s Kaleshwaram Project Funding

BJP MP's misleading statements about Telangana's Kaleshwaram Project's alleged Central Government funding of Rs 86,000 crores.

Hyderabad: Telangana Government, led by CM KCR, utilized its own state funds and loans for the project’s realization, debunking misleading claims.

Telangana, under the leadership of the BRS government, has witnessed an era of remarkable growth and development. With ample evidence to support this claim, the state has flourished on various fronts, with Hyderabad emerging as a shining example of progress.

As the political landscape becomes increasingly charged, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to employ familiar tactics that include misinformation, manipulation, and political maneuvering. The recent controversy centers around the Kaleshwaram Project and the false claims made by a BJP Member of Parliament.

Exposing the Deception: Kaleshwaram Project Funding

Harish Rao Thanneeru Sets the Record Straight

Telangana’s Health Minister, taking to Twitter to denounce the misleading claims made by a BJP MP. He stated that the BJP MP had misled the Loksabha and the entire nation by asserting that the Central Government had allocated Rs. 86,000 crores for the Kaleshwaram Project’s funding. Harish Rao emphasized that the project was built by the Telangana Government under the leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, using state funds and loans obtained by the state government. Importantly, he clarified that not a single rupee had been provided by the Union BJP Government.

FactCheck_Telangana’s Verdict

FactCheck_Telangana, an authoritative fact-checking entity, entered the fray by labelling the claim as a “MisleadingNewsAlert.” The organization reaffirmed that the BJP MP’s assertion was entirely baseless. The Kaleshwaram Project’s construction in Telangana stands as a testament to the state government’s dedication and self-reliance. The fact-checkers pointed out that the Central Government had not extended any financial support to the project, contrary to the misleading claim.

Union Minister’s Clarification

On the 22nd of July, 2021, Mr. Bisweshwar Tudu, the Union Minister of State for Water Resources (Jal Shakti), addressed a query in the Lok Sabha regarding Telangana’s water projects. He confirmed that the Kaleshwaram Project’s establishment drew entirely from the resources of the Telangana State government. This confirmation further reinforced the fact that the Central Government had not provided any financial assistance to the project.

The Impact on Trust and Democracy

The misinformation spread by the BJP MP has far-reaching consequences. As echoed by YSR, the trust in parliamentary democracy is eroded when elected representatives resort to false claims and misleading statements. The credibility of MPs and the democratic process itself comes under scrutiny when such actions persist.

Members of the BRS Party, including Dr. Ranjith Reddy, condemned the false information propagated by the BJP MP. They lodged a formal complaint against the MP for misleading the house with inaccurate data. This move demonstrates a commitment to upholding truth and integrity within the political sphere.

Khaleequr Rahman, another prominent voice in the political arena, expressed concern over the impact of such misleading claims on the people’s trust in parliamentary democracy. He emphasized that such false assertions erode the credibility of MPs and tarnish the sanctity of democratic institutions.
