CWPRS Finds Annaram and Sundilla Barrages in Good Condition, Says No Major Concrete Quality Issues

The Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) has reportedly clarified that the Annaram and Sundilla barrages, part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, do not suffer from major concrete quality defects following extensive tests conducted on their piers.

Hyderabad: The Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) has reportedly clarified that the Annaram and Sundilla barrages, part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, do not suffer from major concrete quality defects following extensive tests conducted on their piers.

The findings come amid continuing political debate over the condition and construction quality of the Kaleshwaram project barrages.

According to the test results, all 72 piers of the Annaram Barrage were examined, with the tests indicating that the concrete quality was satisfactory and that no significant issues were detected.

Similarly, tests were conducted on the piers across all seven blocks of the Sundilla Barrage. The CWPRS reportedly found the concrete quality of the barrage to be very good, with no major structural quality concerns identified in the tested sections.

The assessment also addressed the Medigadda Barrage, where the seventh block had suffered damage and subsidence. According to the findings, the remaining blocks did not show major concrete quality issues.

Even in the affected seventh block, five piers were found to be in good condition, while concerns remain regarding the quality and condition of six other piers.

The latest findings are expected to add a new dimension to the ongoing political and technical debate surrounding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Supporters of the previous BRS government have described the CWPRS findings as evidence that allegations regarding widespread poor construction quality in the Annaram and Sundilla barrages were unfounded.

Further technical assessments and official decisions regarding the damaged section of the Medigadda Barrage are awaited.
