The Telangana High Court has reserved its judgment on petitions challenging the dismissal of disqualification pleas against several MLAs accused of defecting from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the Congress party. The court is expected to deliver its final verdict on September 16.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has reserved its judgment on petitions challenging the dismissal of disqualification pleas against several MLAs accused of defecting from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the Congress party. The court is expected to deliver its final verdict on September 16.

The matter was heard by the bench of Justice A.P. Suresh Kumar Singh following petitions filed by BRS leaders challenging the Speaker’s decision to dismiss the disqualification petitions against the MLAs.

During the hearing, lawyers representing the BRS leaders submitted evidence before the court, arguing that the legislators had originally won the Assembly elections on BRS tickets but later joined the Congress party.

The BRS counsel further contended that some of the MLAs had openly participated in Congress party activities and had even contested the Lok Sabha elections on Congress tickets. According to the petitioners, these developments clearly established that the legislators had defected from the BRS.

However, lawyers representing the MLAs disputed the allegations and informed the court that the legislators continued to remain members of the BRS and had not formally defected from the party.

After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the submissions and evidence presented before it, the Telangana High Court reserved its judgment in the matter.

The court adjourned further proceedings and is scheduled to pronounce its final verdict on September 16. The judgment is expected to have significant political implications in Telangana, particularly in the ongoing dispute between the BRS and Congress over the alleged defections of elected legislators.
