Direct flight from Hyderabad to Baghdad launched

Baghdad, the capital of Iraq and Karbala are seen as historical places among Muslims. Thousands of Indian pilgrims travel to Baghdad and Karbala every year.

Hyderabad: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) today launched the maiden direct flight from Hyderabad to Baghdad (Iraq). Fly Baghdad’s first flight IF462 departed from Hyderabad to Baghdad at 12:55 hours.

Officials and stakeholders of GHIAL flagged off the first flight. Two weekly flights will be operated between Hyderabad and Baghdad (Iraq) on Sunday and Tuesday. Flight IF461 departing from Baghdad will reach Hyderabad at 9:55 am on Tuesday. Flight number IF462 will depart for Baghdad at 10:55 am on the same day.

On Sunday, flight number IF461 will reach Hyderabad from Baghdad at 11:55 and flight number IF462 will depart from Hyderabad to Baghdad at 12:55 on the same day. The launch of direct flights from Baghdad to Hyderabad is a sign of the popularity of medical tourism in Hyderabad. A large number of medical tourists come to India for treatment from Baghdad.

According to the data released by the Union Ministry of Tourism, the number of Iraqis coming to India from Iraq for medical treatment is 10% and this number is gradually increasing. Hyderabad is being seen as a medical tourism hub internationally. Providing the best medical facilities in Hyderabad at reasonable rates, Hyderabad is creating a distinct identity on international level. Keeping this in view, GMR Airport recently started direct flights from Hyderabad to Dhaka (Bangladesh).

Karbala is one of the popular pilgrimage sites and is located near Baghdad. Millions of Muslims from all over the world visit these two places. Other religious shrines in Iraq include the shrines of Hazrat Syedna Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani in Baghdad and the shrine of 4th Caliph Hazrat Ali (RA) in Najaf.

The ruins of Babylon on the Tigris River are also of interest to Indian tourists and are also thronged by tourists. According to GMR officials, a direct flight from Hyderabad to Baghdad will be a boon for people wishing to visit historical and religious places in Iraq.
