New Delhi: The Centre has gone on high alert following the growing threat of the Ebola virus outbreak in Africa. JP Nadda held a high-level review meeting to assess the situation, while the central government issued advisories for passengers arriving in India from Ebola-affected countries. Surveillance has been intensified at airports, and laboratories and quarantine facilities are being established as a precautionary measure.

Centre Issues Advisory for Passengers Arriving From Ebola-Affected Countries
The central government has issued a series of advisories for passengers travelling to India from Ebola-affected regions.
Passengers experiencing symptoms such as:
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Unexplained bleeding
- Headache
have been instructed to report immediately to the airport health officer before immigration clearance.
The Centre has also advised Indian citizens not to travel to the following Ebola-affected countries:
- Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
- Uganda
- South Sudan
JP Nadda Holds High-Level Meeting on Ebola Preparedness
Union Health Minister JP Nadda conducted a high-level review meeting regarding preparedness measures against the Ebola threat.
Officials stated that airport surveillance has been strengthened across the country to monitor incoming international passengers from affected regions.
The government is also setting up laboratories and quarantine facilities as part of emergency preparedness efforts.
WHO Reports Over 900 Suspected Ebola Cases in Africa
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 900 suspected Ebola cases have been reported in Africa so far.
Out of these, 101 cases have been confirmed.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
- 904 suspected Ebola cases have been reported in the DRC
- 101 patients have been diagnosed with Ebola
- At least 119 people are suspected to have died due to Ebola
- Ebola was confirmed as the cause of death in another 10 cases
Uganda Reports Five Confirmed Ebola Cases
As of May 24, Uganda reported:
- Five confirmed Ebola cases
- One Ebola-related death
The WHO stated that the risk of Ebola outbreak remains high at the national level in African countries currently affected by the virus.
However, globally, the risk level is considered comparatively lower.
The Centre has intensified Ebola preparedness measures in India following rising cases in Africa, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda holding a high-level review meeting. Airport surveillance has been tightened, advisories have been issued for passengers arriving from Ebola-affected countries, and laboratories and quarantine facilities are being established. According to WHO and CDC data, more than 900 suspected Ebola cases and over 100 confirmed infections have been reported in Africa, while Uganda has confirmed five cases and one death as of May 24.
