Heavy Rain Alert for Telangana and AP for Next 3 Days as Southwest Monsoon Advances

IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the next three days as the Southwest Monsoon advances. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are expected.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the next three days as the Southwest Monsoon advances rapidly. According to the Meteorological Department, weather conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon, which is expected to bring widespread rainfall across the Telugu states.

The department said there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over Andhra Pradesh during the next two days, while some parts of Telangana may continue to experience heat wave conditions.

Southwest Monsoon Advancing Rapidly

The Meteorological Department stated that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into additional parts of:

  • Southwest Arabian Sea
  • Southeast Arabian Sea
  • Lakshadweep area
  • Southwest Bay of Bengal
  • East-central Bay of Bengal
  • West-central Bay of Bengal
  • Remaining parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal
  • Some parts of Northeast Bay of Bengal

The advance is expected during the next two to three days.

The department also said that the trough over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast is likely to continue. At present, it extends between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Rain Forecast for Andhra Pradesh

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam today, tomorrow and the following day.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places, along with strong winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph.

The IMD has also warned that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during the next three days.

Temperature Outlook for Andhra Pradesh

The Amaravati Meteorological Centre said there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over Andhra Pradesh during the next two days.

However, temperatures may decrease by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the coming days.

The centre also stated that conditions are favourable for further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into:

  • Southeast Arabian Sea
  • Comorin Area
  • Remaining parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal
  • Remaining parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal
  • Andaman Sea
  • East-central Bay of Bengal

During the last 2-3 days.

The weather department further noted that the trough extending from a surface cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Uttar Pradesh region to the North Andhra coast at a height of 1.5 km above mean sea level weakened on Thursday.

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places across Andhra Pradesh, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places in several districts from today and tomorrow.

Telangana Weather Forecast

The Hyderabad Meteorological Department said maximum temperatures in Telangana are likely to remain near the same level for the next two days.

At the same time, heat wave conditions are likely to persist in some parts of the state today and tomorrow.

The department also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places in several districts of Telangana today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Expected

Weather officials have advised residents to remain alert as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are expected in several regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Wind speeds may reach:

  • 50-60 kmph in parts of Andhra Pradesh
  • 40-50 kmph in parts of Telangana

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places during the forecast period.
