Heavy Rains Continue, Lash Several Parts of Telangana for Third Consecutive Day

Many areas in Nizamabad district have been badly affected with Jakranpally receiving the highest rainfall of 232 mm till 8 am today, Sirikonda and Chinna Mavandhi recorded 209.8 mm rainfall respectively in the district.

Hyderabad: Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Telangana state for the third consecutive day, today under the influence of cyclone Gulab.

One person was reportedly washed away in Pulusumamidi stream in Vikarabad district.  The incident occurred when the person tried to cross the stream on his bike despite being warned by locals and officials. Due to heavy flow of water downstream, the person along with his bike got washed away.  Police are taking measures to trace him.

Many areas in Nizamabad district have been badly affected with Jakranpally receiving the highest rainfall of 232 mm till 8 am today, Sirikonda and Chinna Mavandhi recorded 209.8 mm rainfall respectively in the district.

As many as 13 locations in different districts, including Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar and others received very heavy rainfall ranging from 157.8 mm to 197 mm following heavy rains in Adilabad, the Muthadivagu project is getting heavy inflows and officials have alerted residents in low lying areas, officials are constantly monitoring the inflows and would open the gates to release water downstream, depending on further inflows.

HYDERABAD PEOPLE SPENDING SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

The people of Hyderabad particularly of the Old City are spending sleepless nights as several parts of the city are inundated. People are having a hard time entering their homes.  The non-stop rain gripped panic among residents in low lying areas in the Southern part of the city. 

Several areas remained inundated. Nala and drain overflows flooded areas. Water bodies located on city outskirts forced people to desert houses.

Residents of Rein Bazar, Yakutpura, Ganga Nagar, Azampura, Talab Katta, Kishanbagh, especially those near the nala, have been in panic. Due to heavy rainwater flow has increased. They are in fear, apprehending a repeat of last year’s flash floods. Water in the nala is overflowing. There is atleast three ft water in ganga nagar and surrounding areas. 

While areas in the Charminar and Bahadurpura circles, including Himmatpura, Qazipura, Misrigunj, Nawab Sahab Kunta, Mecca Colony and Teegalkunta roads are flooded with water and sewage overflow.  Several areas are witnessing overflow of sewage and storm water which is entering houses, many low lying areas are witnessing water blockage.

The Hyderabad police appealed to the people heading towards Shamshabad Airport to take diversion via Outer Ring Road as Appacheruvu was overflowing and rain water was flowing on the Gaganpahad road.
