Hyderabad: Sardar Mahal near Charminar to be turned into ‘cultural centre’

With a Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) concept, this conservation project will be taken up under public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee on Wednesday approved the proposal to conserve and develop Sardar Mahal and turn it into a ‘cultural centre’. The palace located near Charminar was built in European style.

With a Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) concept, this conservation project will be taken up under public-private partnership (PPP) mode. Telangana Today quoting a GHMC official reported that renovation of the building will be taken up and the structure will be restored by conversing its heritage value.

As per the proposal, the Sardar Mahal will be converted into a museum that will showcase the history of the region through maps, paintings and pictures. However, final decision about the elements in the cultural centre will be taken after the works related to structural stability are completed.

Built by Nizam VI Mir Mahoob Ali Khan in 1900, Sardar Mahal was declared as a heritage building by the Heritage Conservation Committee and Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage.

Nine proposals have been approved related to civic works.
