Shaik Muzammil Ahmed, a 25-year-old student from Hyderabad, tragically passed away due to cardiac arrest in Canada.
Shaik Muzammil Ahmed, a 25-year-old student hailing from Hyderabad, tragically passed away in Canada due to cardiac arrest while pursuing his Master’s degree in IT at Conestoga College, Waterloo Campus in Kitchener City, Ontario. The news of his demise surfaced when Amjad Ullah Khan, a leader of the Telangana-based political party, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), shared the incident on social media.
According to Khan, Ahmed had been suffering from fever for the past week, and the family received the heartbreaking news of his sudden demise through a call from one of Ahmed’s friends, who cited cardiac arrest as the cause. In a plea for assistance, the grief-stricken family reached out to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging help in repatriating Ahmed’s mortal remains to Hyderabad.
In a letter addressed to Minister Jaishankar, the family expressed their shock and appealed for support to expedite the process of bringing Ahmed back home. Khan shared the letter on social media platforms, requesting assistance from the High Commission of India in Ottawa and the Consulate General of India in Toronto to facilitate the repatriation process.
“Shaik Muzammil Ahmed, 25 years old, from Hyderabad, Telangana State, pursuing Masters in IT from Conestoga College, Waterloo Campus in Kitchener City, Ontario, Canada since December 2022, was suffering from fever for the last week. But his family received a call from his friend that he died due to cardiac arrest today,” Khan wrote on X.
The family’s appeal for repatriation assistance comes in the wake of heightened concerns over the welfare of Indian students studying abroad. Earlier, Khan had shed light on the case of another Indian student, Syed Mazahir Ali, who was brutally attacked in Chicago. Videos circulating on social media showed Ali severely injured, prompting swift action from the Indian Consulate in Chicago, which assured all possible assistance to the victim’s family back in India.
The tragic incident underscores the challenges faced by Indian students studying overseas, ranging from health emergencies to safety concerns. The need for robust support systems and quick response mechanisms to address such situations has been emphasized by community leaders and activists.
As the family of Shaik Muzammil Ahmed mourns his untimely demise, their appeal for repatriation assistance serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of timely intervention and support for Indian nationals abroad. The Ministry of External Affairs and Indian diplomatic missions have been called upon to expedite the process and ensure that Ahmed’s mortal remains are brought back to his homeland without delay, offering solace to his grieving loved ones during this difficult time.
In the face of adversity, the solidarity and collective efforts of the community are vital in providing comfort and assistance to those in need. The outpouring of support and sympathy for Ahmed’s family reflects the bonds of compassion and kinship that unite us in times of sorrow. As efforts continue to bring Ahmed back home, his memory will be cherished, and his legacy honored by all those touched by his life.
