Hyderabad: HYDRAA (Hyderabad Urban Development Authority) is set to receive expanded powers to tackle illegal encroachments on lakes and public lands across the state of Telangana.

The authority will launch an aggressive campaign to remove unauthorized structures, with operations set to begin next week using bulldozers around lakes and water bodies.

In Musi River’s buffer zone, HYDRAA has already issued notices to clear illegal constructions. The Revenue Department has identified 10,000 such unauthorized structures that are under scrutiny by the government.

Arrangements are being made to provide alternative housing, such as double-bedroom flats, for those affected in areas like Chaderghat and Musrambagh. According to HYDRAA sources, the government is also considering boosting the organization’s workforce to ensure swift and effective action.

HYDRAA is now empowered to take legal action against unauthorized constructions on public spaces, lakes, and canals to safeguard the city’s resources and infrastructure.
