Madrasa timetable revised in Uttar Pradesh; no slot for Zohr prayer

According to the new time table, students have to attend classes from 9 am to 3 pm, an hour more than the earlier.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board Chairman Iftikhar Ahmed Javed has issued a directive to all religious madrasas affiliated to the state government to ensure 6 hours of education for students to bring them up to the standards of other schools. These orders will be implemented from October 1.

While welcoming the move, Muslim clerics and madrassa have expressed objection as the new timetable does not have a slot for afternoon namaz (1 pm-2 pm).

According to the new time table, students have to attend classes from 9 am to 3 pm, an hour more than the earlier. Teachers and staff members also have to do at least 6 hours of duty. Javed said that madrasa students should not feel inferior to others in the society.

They should have good general knowledge, beside other subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, Hindi and Religious subjects. We want students to be perfect and contribute to the development of the country. He said that we have to create respect for madrasa education. He added that science, mathematics, English and Hindi classes should be conducted daily along with other religious subjects like Arabic, Persian, theology and Urdu.

Javed further said that the government wants the teachers of religious schools to work according to the new time table. The day should begin at 9 am with a prayer followed by the singing of the national anthem. Later there should be classes till noon.

Lunch time for students and teachers will be at 12:30 p.m. After that there should be classes till 3 pm. All madrasas have been instructed to adhere to this time table.
