Mysterious ‘Mermaid’ Found on Papua New Guinea Beach Sparks Scientific Intrigue

Scientists are intrigued and eager to uncover more about a peculiar “mermaid” that supposedly washed up on a beach in Papua New Guinea, reigniting human fascination with the depths of the ocean. Images of this eerie, pale mass, resembling a mermaid, circulated on a Facebook page named “New Irelanders Only.”

This enigmatic, pallid, and decomposed mass, mermaid-like in appearance, was discovered by individuals on Simberi Island in Papua New Guinea’s Bismarck Sea on September 20. Experts remain uncertain about its true identity, but they lean towards it being a sea creature rather than a mystical entity.

As reported by Live Science, it falls under the category of a globster, an unidentified organic entity that washes ashore. Pinpointing the origins of these puzzling masses proves challenging, as much of the body has decayed, and many are lacking parts that have likely detached in the open sea. In this instance, a significant portion of the creature’s head and flesh is absent. There is no available information on the size and weight of the carcass, as it was not adequately measured before locals interred it, as reported by representatives of “New Irelanders Only” to Live Science. Additionally, no DNA samples were collected, making precise identification nearly impossible.
