Naveen-ul-Haq retires from ODI cricket after Afghanistan’s last match in World Cup 2023
Afghanistan fast-bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has retired from ODI cricket following his side’s exit from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Afghanistan ended its World Cup 2023 campaign with a 5-wicket loss against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Ahmadabad: Afghanistan fast-bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has retired from ODI cricket following his side’s exit from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Afghanistan ended its World Cup 2023 campaign with a 5-wicket loss against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Naveen made his debut in 2016 and went on to pick 22 wickets in 15 ODI matches for Afghanistan. He took to social media platform Instagram to confirm his retirement after their loss against South Africa.
The right-arm pacer had announced that he would retire from ODIs following the World Cup to prolong his career.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country and I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country. It hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career, I had to take this tough decision would like to thank the Afghanistan Cricket Board and all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” Naveen had posted on social media platforms.
Naveen has also represented Afghanistan in 27 T20I matches, picking 34 wickets. He is also a regular fixture in the several franchise leagues across the world, featuring in the IPL, LPL, BBL and PSL.
