Hyderabad Growth Requires Long-Term Planning
CM Revanth Reddy said metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai are facing severe challenges including pollution, floods, and traffic congestion.
He said the Telangana Government is studying the intensity of these problems and working with a clear vision to ensure that future generations do not face similar difficulties.
The Chief Minister stated:
“Currently, the population within the ORR limits is 1.34 crore. People from other districts, states, and countries are coming to Hyderabad for employment and livelihood opportunities. The city is expanding at a rapid rate of 3 percent every year. Until now, governance in this region was divided among Gram Panchayats, Municipalities, Corporations, and Greater Hyderabad, resulting in four different administrative systems.”
Three Municipal Corporations Created for Better Governance
The Chief Minister said the absence of coordination among departments led to several public problems relating to:
- Drinking water supply
- Roads
- Underground drainage
- Garbage accumulation
- Electricity
- Policing
To address these issues, the government consulted experts and decided to decentralize the 2,100 sq km metropolitan area into three municipal corporations.
The new structure includes:
- Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation – 150 divisions
- Cyberabad Municipal Corporation – 76 divisions
- Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation – 74 divisions
He added that police commissionerates have also been established in line with this administrative restructuring.
Development Above Politics, Says CM
Revanth Reddy said the decentralization initiative was undertaken solely to accelerate urban development.
He stated that there is no political discrimination or unnecessary debate when it comes to development. According to him, political discussions should be limited to election periods and can be taken up six months before elections.
He appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the government for the development of Telangana until then.
