Singareni Saves Rs 25.66 Lakh with Battery Energy Storage System at Mandamarri Solar Plant
Singareni saved Rs. 25.66 lakh through its Battery Energy Storage System at the 28 MW Mandamarri solar plant in Telangana by storing surplus solar electricity.

Singareni Collieries Company Limited has achieved significant savings through the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) established at its solar plant in Mandamarri. The project, set up under the directions of A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, has helped the company save Rs. 25,66,460 within just four months.

First Large-Scale BESS Project in Telangana
According to Singareni management, the BESS project is the first major project of its kind established in Telangana under the instructions of the state government.
The system stores unused solar power generated during daytime instead of supplying it free of cost to the power grid. The stored electricity is later used whenever required, resulting in financial benefits for the company.
How the BESS System Helps Singareni
The Telangana government has been encouraging solar power generation, and several state institutions, including Singareni, have been producing solar energy.
Singareni has already established solar plants with a combined capacity of 245.5 megawatts at eight locations.
Among these:
- 147 megawatts capacity plants have been identified as open access plants
- 98.50 megawatts capacity plants have been identified as in-house plants connected to Telangana power grids
Although electricity from in-house plants is connected to Telangana electricity grids, the agreement states that only locally consumed power is utilized, while surplus electricity supplied to the Telangana DISCOM is not paid for and must be supplied free of cost.
Mandamarri Solar Plant Storing Surplus Electricity
The 28 megawatt solar plant at Mandamarri has been efficiently supplying electricity to mines and colonies in Mandamarri and Srirampur areas.
However, after meeting local electricity needs, additional power still remained unused. To utilize this surplus electricity, Singareni experimentally established the 1 megawatt BESS unit at the Mandamarri plant in January.
Since then, the BESS unit has stored and utilized 3,35,485 units of surplus electricity after meeting local requirements.
As a result, Singareni received financial benefits amounting to Rs. 25,66,460.
Management stated that it was remarkable for a 1 megawatt BESS unit to save such a large quantity of electricity and money.
Singareni Management Expresses Happiness Over BESS Success
Singareni management expressed happiness over the successful implementation of the experimental BESS project established under the state government’s directions.
The management also announced that the company is ready to undertake more such projects in line with the government’s goal of promoting renewable energy resources.
Singareni’s Battery Energy Storage System at the 28-megawatt solar plant in Mandamarri has delivered strong results within four months by storing 3,35,485 units of surplus solar electricity and saving Rs. 25,66,460. The first large-scale BESS project in Telangana, established under the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, has helped Singareni efficiently utilize surplus solar power instead of supplying it free to the grid.
