The disappearance of Danawat Karthik Naik, a 21-year-old second-year B.Tech student at IIT Hyderabad, has become a puzzling mystery. On July 17, Karthik left the IIT campus and never returned. His worried parents visited the campus on July 19, only to find that Karthik’s phone was switched off. Unable to locate him, they reported the matter to the police. The authorities discovered that Karthik’s phone signal indicated he had traveled to Visakhapatnam.
Originally from Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district, Karthik was pursuing his studies at IIT Hyderabad. CCTV footage revealed that on July 17, he left college and headed to Secunderabad railway station, where he boarded the Janmabhoomi Express train bound for Visakhapatnam. Despite extensive searches along Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, he remained elusive for three days. Interestingly, Karthik’s phone was found to intermittently switch on and off, complicating the efforts to trace him through signals.
In one piece of CCTV footage, Karthik was seen using his phone to make a purchase at a bakery, even though the phone was later turned off, and he seemed to vanish from that location before signals could be tracked again.
The reasons behind Karthik’s trip to Vizag, his activities there, the peculiar on-off pattern of his phone, and why he has not informed his parents remain unknown. The situation has become an enigma as authorities and Karthik’s family await answers.
