Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has released ₹221.24 crore for Gurukuls and government residential hostel schools and introduced a monthly payment system for building rent, diet charges and cosmetics expenses. The decision aims to permanently resolve financial difficulties faced by residential educational institutions functioning under SC, ST, BC, Minority Welfare and Education Departments.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the government is committed to providing quality education and better residential facilities for socially backward and weaker section students.

Monthly Payment System Introduced for Gurukul and Hostel Schools

The Telangana Government announced that food expenses (diet charges), cosmetics costs and building rents for residential educational institutions will now be released every month without delay.

The decision applies to institutions functioning under:

  • SC Welfare Department
  • ST Welfare Department
  • BC Welfare Department
  • Minority Welfare Department
  • Education Department

The government stated that the move was introduced to ensure better facilities and quality educational environment for students from socially and economically weaker sections.

Previous Delays Caused Problems in Hostel Management

According to officials, delays of 8 to 9 months in releasing funds earlier had created severe management difficulties in residential schools and hostels.

To permanently resolve the issue, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka reportedly took special initiative.

Initially, the government introduced a quarterly payment system under which funds were released once every three months. The system has now been upgraded to monthly payments.

The Deputy Chief Minister had announced this important policy change during the presentation of the 2026-27 Telangana Budget.

Government Releases ₹221.24 Crore Funds

As part of the monthly payment system, the Telangana Government released ₹221.24 crore towards:

  • Diet charges
  • Cosmetics expenses
  • Building rents

for residential educational institutions under various welfare and education departments.

Officials stated that the release of funds would ensure uninterrupted nutrition, proper hostel management and timely payment of building rents.

The government believes the move will significantly improve educational outcomes and the overall school atmosphere for students.

Bhatti Vikramarka Assures Better Facilities for Students

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated:

“The government is committed to providing quality education and better residential facilities to students from weaker and marginalised sections. Our goal is not only the holistic development and empowerment of students, but also to shape them into responsible citizens useful to society.”
