Hyderabad: In a move aimed at facilitating the observance of the holy month of Ramzan, the Telangana government has issued orders permitting Muslim government employees, including those on contract, out-sourcing, boards, and public sector roles, to leave their respective offices and schools one hour early.
The directive, outlined in Circular Memo No.1895/Poll.B/2024 dated March 6, 2024, is effective from March 12 to April 11, 2024, inclusive of both dates.
The decision follows representations from various minority employee associations, including the Telangana State Minority Employees Service Association and the All-Minority Employees Welfare Association, Hyderabad.
Recognizing the significance of Ramzan and acknowledging the importance of facilitating religious observances, the government has extended this courtesy to Muslim employees.
Under the terms of the circular, employees are permitted to depart from their workplaces at 4:00 p.m. during the holy month of Ramzan, except in cases where their presence is deemed necessary due to service exigencies.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting the religious practices of its diverse workforce.
Chief Secretary to the Government, Santhi Kumari, affirmed the decision, emphasizing the importance of accommodating the religious needs of all employees during significant festivals like Ramzan.
