Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to accelerate the construction plan of the Tummidihetti Barrage during a high-level meeting held at MCRHRD. The proposal suggests building the barrage at 150 metres height to utilize at least 100 TMC water, benefiting Telangana’s irrigation needs. The current status confirms that planning discussions are underway, Maharashtra consultations are to be initiated, and project execution is being fast-tracked.

High-Level Meeting on Tummidihetti Barrage at MCRHRD

The meeting was attended by:

  • Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy
  • Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy
  • Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao
  • MP Vem Narender Reddy
  • Senior officials of the Irrigation Department

Officials presented a PowerPoint presentation explaining:

  • Required height of the barrage
  • Water utilization capacity at different levels

150 Metre Height Proposal to Utilize 100 TMC Water

During the meeting:

  • Experts suggested 150 metres height for the barrage
  • At this level, at least 100 TMC water can be utilized
  • It would help achieve Telangana’s irrigation benefits

Officials also stated:

  • Telangana has already spent nearly ₹11,000 crore on the Pranahita-Chevella Project
  • 71.5 km canal work has been completed

Experts recommended:

  • Constructing the barrage at 150 metres to fully utilize existing infrastructure

Maharashtra Factor and Engineering Recommendations

As per previous discussions:

  • Maharashtra agreed to 148 metres height
  • 152 metres height may cause submergence impact in Maharashtra

Engineering experts suggested:

  • 150 metres as a middle path
  • Ensures less cost and better water utilization
  • Minimizes submergence issues in Maharashtra

Benefits for Telangana Farmers and Water Supply

Chief Minister stated:

  • The barrage will benefit farmers in Adilabad and upland Telangana regions
  • It will provide irrigation and drinking water
  • Enables gravity-based water supply to Sripada Yellampalli Reservoir
  • Ensures low-cost water transfer

CM Orders Talks with Maharashtra

Considering project importance:

  • CM directed officials to initiate discussions with Maharashtra immediately
  • Stated that 150 metres height will not cause major submergence
  • Government is ready to provide compensation if required

Letter to Union Minister Kishan Reddy

The CM instructed:

  • Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy to write to Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy
  • Request support to convince Maharashtra Government

Decisions taken:

  • Letter to be sent immediately after the meeting
  • Plan to seek appointment and meet the Union Minister directly the next day

  • Appeal to be made on behalf of Telangana farmers

  • CM ordered to speed up geo-testing works at Medigadda Barrage
  • Directed officials to complete work before monsoon rains
