Telangana Leads Mobile Recovery: 1,24,850 Phones Recovered via CEIR Portal

Telangana tops mobile recovery in India with 1,24,850 phones recovered via CEIR portal between April 2023 and April 2026, says DG CID Charu Sinha.

Telangana has emerged as the top-performing state in mobile phone recovery, successfully tracing and returning 1,24,850 stolen and lost mobile phones to users through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, according to DG CID Charu Sinha. The achievement highlights how the state used the CEIR system, police coordination, and technical teams to track, block, and recover devices, with the recovery process currently ongoing.

Telangana Mobile Recovery via CEIR Portal

DG CID Charu Sinha stated that the CEIR portal, developed by the Department of Telecommunications to prevent mobile theft and counterfeit devices, is being implemented across all 780 police stations in Telangana. The CID Telangana is acting as the nodal agency for this initiative.

Key Data from April 20, 2023 to April 26, 2026

  • 4.82 lakh+ devices blocked
  • 2.82 lakh+ traceability reports generated
  • 1,24,850 mobile phones recovered and returned

These figures show a strong performance in tackling mobile theft and establishing a benchmark in recovery rates.

Telangana Outperforms Other Pilot States

Despite launching the CEIR portal later than other pilot states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, and the North Eastern regions, Telangana has achieved remarkable success.

DG Charu Sinha credited this success to:

  • Police training programs
  • Public awareness campaigns
  • Dedicated technical teams

Integration with Telangana Police Citizen Portal

The CEIR system has been integrated with the Telangana Police Citizen Portal, allowing citizens to report lost or stolen mobile phones online. Regular monitoring, inter-department coordination, and prompt action at the police station level have significantly improved recovery rates.

DG Charu Sinha also stated that efforts are ongoing to trace devices being used in other states.

Citizen-Friendly Initiative Strengthens Anti-Theft Efforts

The CEIR initiative has been described as a citizen-friendly service, helping people recover lost devices efficiently while strengthening the fight against mobile theft across Telangana.

Telangana has become the leading state in mobile phone recovery, with 1,24,850 devices recovered through the CEIR portal between April 20, 2023 and April 26, 2026. Implemented across 780 police stations, and supported by CID Telangana under DG Charu Sinha, the initiative continues to track, block, and recover stolen phones, with investigations and tracing efforts still ongoing.
