IMD Predicts Rain in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as Bay of Bengal Low Pressure Intensifies

IMD forecast predicts rain in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensifies over the next 48 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the next two to three days due to the strengthening low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

According to the weather department, the system forming in the Bay of Bengal is intensifying further and is expected to bring relief to people suffering from severe summer heat in the Telugu states.

Officials also stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands by the end of this week.

Low Pressure Area Strengthening Over Bay of Bengal

The IMD stated that the low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is becoming stronger.

Officials said the associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to around 4.5 kilometres above mean sea level.

The weather department further stated that the system is likely to intensify further during the next 48 hours.

Trough Line Extends Across Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and Karnataka

According to the weather department, an easterly trough line extends from the low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal to Marathwada through:

  • North Tamil Nadu
  • Rayalaseema
  • North Interior Karnataka

The trough line is located at around 0.9 kilometres above mean sea level.

Officials said these changing weather conditions are likely to trigger rainfall activity in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Rain Forecast for Telangana Districts

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Department, several districts of Telangana are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.

Officials stated that some places may witness:

  • Thunderstorms
  • Gusty winds
  • Rainfall activity

However, the department predicted dry weather conditions in Telangana on Wednesday and Thursday.

The IMD also warned that maximum temperatures in Telangana may increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the next four days.

Rainfall Likely in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema

The weather department stated that North Coastal Andhra Pradesh may receive light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers.

Rainfall is also likely at several places on Thursday.

In South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, light to moderate rain is expected along with strong winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

Officials also predicted light to moderate rainfall in Rayalaseema regions during the next two days.

The rainfall is expected to provide some relief to people from intense summer heat conditions.
