Hyderabad Metro to Get More Coaches, Better Last-Mile Connectivity as HMRL Plans Major Passenger Service Upgrade

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited plans to add more Metro coaches, improve last-mile connectivity and enhance passenger amenities across its 69-km Phase-1 network, says HMRL Additional MD B. Ajith Reddy.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is planning to introduce additional Metro coaches and improve last-mile connectivity to enhance passenger services across the city. During a review meeting on Wednesday, HMRL Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan covering passenger amenities, station cleanliness, safety, parking, crowd management and Metro expansion across the 69-km Phase-1 Metro network.

HMRL Plans More Metro Coaches to Reduce Congestion

Reviewing the operations of the 69-km Phase-1 Metro network, HMRL Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy instructed officials to begin discussions with manufacturers for the early procurement of additional Metro coaches.

He said the move would improve passenger comfort and help reduce congestion across the Hyderabad Metro network.

Focus on Last-Mile Connectivity and Passenger Amenities

Ajith Reddy reviewed several aspects of Metro operations, including:

  • Passenger amenities
  • Last-mile connectivity
  • Station cleanliness
  • Passenger safety
  • Parking facilities
  • Crowd management

He directed officials to strengthen last-mile connectivity by coordinating with TSRTC and the Transport Department.

The Additional Managing Director also called for the maintenance and expansion of skywalks connecting Metro stations with nearby railway stations and public spaces to improve commuter convenience.

Station-Specific Improvement Plans to Be Introduced

Ajith Reddy instructed officials to prepare station-specific improvement plans, beginning with pilot projects at select Metro stations before extending the improvements across the entire network.

He also announced that he would conduct field inspections of Metro stations to review operations and maintenance firsthand.

PRTS Plans Reviewed for Hyderabad IT Hubs

The meeting also reviewed proposals for the Public Rapid Transit System (PRTS) in major IT corridors, including:

  • Hitech City
  • Raidurg
  • Gachibowli
  • Financial District
  • Kondapur

Officials also reviewed passenger safety measures implemented by the Metro Rail Security Department.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is set to enhance passenger services by procuring additional Metro coaches, improving last-mile connectivity, and implementing station-specific improvement plans across the 69-km Phase-1 Metro network. Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy also directed officials to strengthen coordination with TSRTC and the Transport Department, expand skywalk connectivity, and review Public Rapid Transit System (PRTS) proposals for Hitech City, Raidurg, Gachibowli, Financial District and Kondapur.
