MNIT Students Contributed to the New Design
According to the Ministry of Railways, the redesign was inspired by suggestions from students of the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT).
The students interacted with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and shared ideas to make the website more user-friendly.
Several of their recommendations were incorporated into the new platform, and the students also participated in the design process.
Faster Booking and Simpler User Experience
The upgraded beta website introduces several improvements, including:
- Cleaner and modern interface
- Simplified navigation
- Streamlined ticket booking process
- Removal of unnecessary captchas
- Removal of pop-ups
- Removal of flashing graphics and other distracting elements
These changes are intended to provide passengers with a smoother and faster booking experience.
Seat Availability Across All Classes
The new website now displays seat availability across all travel classes, allowing passengers to compare options more conveniently.
The booking process has also been shortened by reducing the number of checkout steps.
In addition, saved passenger details make repeat bookings quicker and easier.
Beta Version Open for User Feedback
The Ministry of Railways said the beta version has been launched to collect feedback from users before the final version is released.
Suggestions received during the trial period will be used to refine the platform, and additional improvements will be incorporated in future updates.
Integration with New Passenger Reservation Engine
The revamped website will also be integrated with the new Passenger Reservation Engine (PRS), which is currently being upgraded.
The Ministry said the reservation engine powers train bookings across multiple applications and required extensive redevelopment while ensuring uninterrupted services.
The fully integrated new IRCTC portal along with the upgraded Passenger Reservation Engine (PRS) is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
