Allahabad High Court rejects petition on Taj Mahal; lashes out at petitioner

New Delhi: Rejecting a petition seeking its directions to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for opening 22 closed doors of the world-famous monument Taj Mahal, The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday pulled up the petitioner and asked him not to make “a mockery of the PIL system”.

Taj Mahal is located in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh.

Pulling up the petitioner, a bench comprising Justices DK Upadhyay and Subhash Vidyarthi said, “Go and research. Do M.A. Do PhD.”

Contending that the Taj Mahal was a Shiva Temple, known as Tejo Mahalaya, Dr Rajneesh Singh had filed the plea seeking direction to the Archeological Survey of India to open 20 sealed doors of the Taj Mahal to resolve the controversy around its origins and to find out whether Hindu idols and inscriptions are hidden there.

The bench further lambasted, “tomorrow you’ll come and ask us to go to the chambers of Hon’ble judges of this court?”
