Asansol court advocate accused of sending threat letter to CBI judge arrested
The arrested advocate, who was picked up from near the Asansol court in West Bardhaman on Monday, would be produced before the ACJM court here shortly, the court sources said.
Asansol: A practising lawyer of Asansol court, identified as Sudiptya Roy, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in dispatching a threat letter to a CBI judge, who has been hearing TMC leader Anubrata Mondal case of cattle trafficking across the West Bengal borders to Bangladesh, official sources said on Tuesday.
The arrested advocate, who was picked up from near the Asansol court in West Bardhaman on Monday, would be produced before the ACJM court here shortly, the court sources said.
CBI court judge in Asansol Rajesh Chakraborty, who is hearing the cattle smuggling case, has allegedly received a letter threatening his family members with drug cases if he did not grant
bail to Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal.
Mondal is now under the Judicial custody for two weeks.
The arrested advocate has been accused of sending the threat letter to the CBI judge in the name
of Bappa Chatterjee.
Chatterjee is the head clerk of the Magistrate court of Asansol court.
The West Bengal police on Monday picked up the accused advocate and took him to his home in Bardhaman and arrested him.
Meanwhile, three-member team of CBI officials on Tuesday reached the Asansol Correctional
Home to quiz the incarcerated Anubrata Mondal.
Mondal, arrested by the CBI on August 11 in a cattle smuggling case, has been in judicial custody
for two weeks since August 24.
